Dinotopia Lost

Genre: Adventure

Author: Alan Dean Foster

Plot
There is an island isolated from the rest of the world. Dinosaurs never died here, and shipwrecked humans have learned to coexist with the intelligent creatures as equals. Rich cities built to accomodate everyone from the smallest four-legged to humans to the greatest sauropods dot the beautiful island. Danger does exist in the interior, where the carnivores have carved out their own society. Generally peaceful, Dinotopia is upset by the successful landing of pirates...

With the aim of capturing the exotic species they find and showing them off to the world, the pirates terrorize the inhabitants - indeed, they threaten the very way of life on the island. Who will prevent the pirates from leaving and telling the whole world that a new land awaits exploitation?

Brian's Opinion
Dinotopia Lost sprung from the popular children's series done by James Gurney. The original books are fantastically illustrated and the plots are beautifully creative. Having loved Gurney's books as a child and the short spin off novels, I delved into Dinotopia Lost with high expectations - expectations which were more than met.

Who Might Like It
Love dinosaurs as a kid? Having pangs of missing the old joy of imaging a world of dinosaurs? I'd highly recommend this book to you - Foster weaves a creative story which is made infinitely better by the presence of dinosaurs (from now on called the 'dinosaur amplification rule.' This is no short children's book - Foster means business.
