Fast Food Nation Book Review

Genre: Non-fiction

Author: Eric Schlosser

Plot
Eric Schlosser tells his story of exploration of how Americans eat, and where their food comes from. Reminiscent of Sinclair's The Jungle, Schlosser tears open the dark secrets behind the McDonald's hamburger and the fast food culture of America, and now, the world. From the fast food kitchens where your food is prepared to slaughter houses, Eric pulls out the dirty truth about fast food and highlights the little gleaming bits of hope.

Brian's Opinion
Schlosser did an excellent job researching Fast Food Nation, and a key part of his research which both makes his message compelling and shocking are accounts of his on-site visits and in-person interviews with the people who matter. From ranchers using grass-fed beef and sustainable grazing methods, executives of potato monopolists, and devastated slaughter house workers, Fast Food Nation made me never want to trust fast food again.

Who Might Like It
This is a great book for someone who wants to know the backstory of their food, and who is curious if the fast food industry is having harmful effects on people (you can probably guess that answer). If you eat a lot of fast food, I'd highly recommend giving this book a chance - it might just save years of your life and force you to reconsider how America does food.
