Operation Mincemeat Book Review

Genre: Non-fiction, History               Author: Ben Macintyre

Plot Synopsis
The early part of WWII is over. The Allies, now joined by the Americans, are battered but alive. There is still a problem though - looking across the sea to Europe is a wall, a bristling wall of German and Italian soldiers and guns, and an Axis-sympathetic Spain to boot. How to invade the continent? German intelligence is top notch, and the British spy masters are worried. Suddenly, a bizarre  idea - could a dead man with fake references to an invasion plan throw the Germans off the true landing site of Sicily? The strange plan is greenlighted and set into motion...

Brian's Review
As you might have gathered, I love a well-written WWII history book. Operation Mincemeat was recommended to me by a friend, and I found the story incredibly captivating, and absolutely strange. The story is told from all sides of the equation - the scheming British spies and intelligence agency, the German counterparts, and even a submariner captain who kept getting asked to do, well, odd jobs. If you enjoy spy stories and want to read a real spy story, I'd suggest Operation Mincemeat.

Read it!
