Juggler of Worlds Book Review

Genre: Sci-Fi            Author: Larry Niven

What can be said about the puppeteers? They are strange aliens, looking like a couple of snakes and a gazelle got into an accident. They are tremendous cowards, and secretive. They sell general products spaceships, guaranteed 100% indestructible. In fact, this is all your average person knows about this galactic race. People call them puppeteers because of their sock puppet heads, but they little know how fitting the name really is. It would take a manically paranoid person to suspect the depths of puppeteer conspiracies. And the person is Sigmund Ausfaller, the one man who can see those sock puppets juggling entire worlds.

Alex's Opinion
Larry Niven is one my favorite authors- his novels are intricately wrought with detail, world building, plot, and character development. This novel takes place 200 years before the iconic novel "Ring World". The scope of this book was vast, the characters deep, with real personalities (defects and all). This is "hard" science fiction- very filling. I usually pick up a Niven book every few months, and this one will have me coming back for more.

Who would like it?
This is classic hard sci-fi, with detail, world building, and elaborate long drawn plots- so if you like that sort of thing, you'll love "Juggler of Worlds". Fans of the Ring World series will enjoy the character development of Nessus, and the Puppeteer world/society.
