Small Gods Book Review

Genre: Fantasy, Satire

Author: Terry Pratchett

Plot:
Om has a small problem- he is a tortoise. This wouldn't be a problem for your average tortoise, but Om wasn't normally so reptilian- he was more used to taking form of a massive rampaging bull, for he was the Great God Om, with thousands of followers. The only problem was, out of a thousand followers, there was only one true believer. Young Brutha was this believer, a novice disciple, who never expected to meet his god face to face- albeit you had to pick Om off the ground and hold him up to do so. And what Brutha finds is that Om is not exactly what he expected.
When war threatens to break out between the Ephebians and Omnians over the shape of the world (Either a big sphere orbiting the sun, or a sun orbiting a giant disc, on the back of four massive elephants, ferried through space on a gigantic turtle- this being the more sensible and scientifically proven view), Om, and his only believer must prevent the death of their countrymen, while stopping the cruel high priest Vorbis, who will forever seek to spread the word of Om at sword point.

Alex's Opinion:
Another Terry Pratchett book, in the discworld series! I love these books- and this one is very well done. It is a wry and witty satire of religion and dogmatism, giving a refreshing and unique view on what it means to believe. The characters are unique, likable, hate-able, and laughable. Well worth the read!
