The Ringworld Engineers Book Review

Genre: Sci-fi          Author: Larry Niven

Plot Synopsis
Louis Wu is having the highest high one can imagine - a cable plugged into his brain is trickling power directly into his pleasure centers. What could be wrong in the world? Well, a lot actually. Appearing from no where, Louis is suddenly kidnapped by an insane puppeteer. Awakening on an unknown spaceship alongside an angry (a very angry) quarter ton orange furball known formally to Louis as Speaker to Animals, he realizes that he has been subjected to a crazy puppeteer's schemes. Together Louis and the kzin Speaker to Animals had explored the marvel known as Ringworld over twenty years prior. Ringworld, a gargantuan feat of engineering, is a massive ring orbiting a star populated by hundreds upon hundreds of humanoid species. Where had it come from? Who had made it? Now they return as captives to a mad puppeteer to try to save the Ringworld and to learn its secrets, for the Ringworld is unstable...

Brian's Review
I read Ringworld by Niven what seems like ages ago, and picked up The Ringworld Engineers mostly on whim having failed to find Juggler of Worlds at the local library. Well, I was quite happy with my selection - Niven polished up the story and engineering of the Ringworld for this sequel and the story line flows much better in my opinion. The technology is fantastic and the situations just that right touch of unbelievable yet feasible. If you've read Ringworld, you owe it to yourself to complete the story.

Read it!
